From the project page or directly from the dashboard, you will be able to create and manage your digital projects. We are proposing two types of projects so far. Modern projects (with the pink logo) are for small to middle size projects and Classical projects (with the purple logo) are for larger collaborative works. With modern project, you will organize your work with no hierarchy structure: all R&D resources are available directly and in a single place. Classical projects are hierarchical ; they can contain other classical projets, modern projects and documents at any level. For any type of project, you can organise, store, and share documents. Projects will also contain Constellab reports and digital experiments shared from digital labs. You can also discuss of project activities with other project members directly from each project page.
How to create a digital project ?
You can create a project from the dashboard or the project page by using the button labeled (+ new project). Simply select the type of project you want to create - modern or classical - and enter a project code, a title, and a starting date. The project code is a unique alphanumeric combination, limited to 20 characters, assigned to a specific project for the purpose of tracking and linking it with a digital lab. The project title is a concise and informative name limited to 50 characters. The starting date is mandatory but the ending date - or planned ending date - is optional. Finally, configure the storage location by choosing a cloud provider for your data. This configuration defines where the digital R&D asserts, documents and sub-projets will be stored. After completing these steps, click 'Save,' and your new project will be set up and ready for use.
Scientific reports and experiments produced by digital labs are made available to project team members
Constellab offers comprehensive project management capabilities for complex multi-partner and multi-center projects. Scientists can generate technical reports and conduct digital experiments within their digital labs. When they want, scientists can synchronize their reports and digital experiments and these assets will be shared permanently with the rest of the team.
On this example below, Hugo has made 6 digital experiments and one technical report using an on-cloud digital lab. After the synchronisation, Camille and Julie can read the report for the project dashboard and get access to technical information about digital experiment, even if the digital lab is off.
How to describe your project ?
Describing a project is important because it clarifies its scope, helps with planning and scheduling, enables effective communication, establishes accountability, and allows for evaluation and assessment of its success. A well-described project ensures that everyone understands what is required and has a clear roadmap for achieving the desired outcomes. In Constellab, you can describe your project from the project description module. You will be able to summarize the objectives to be achieved, create to-do lists, and do much more.
How to share project with a user or a team ?
Projects are designed to be shared with users or teams to promote collaboration. In classical projects, only the main project can be shared, granting access to all its sub-projects.
To share a project, follow these steps:
- Open the modern project or the root project of a classical project.
- Look for the
Share button and click on it. This will open a dialog for sharing.
- In the sharing dialog, you can see a list of teams and users who already have access to the project.
- To add a new team or user, click on the
Share button and select the desired team or user.
How to exchange with your colleagues ?
Every project includes a dedicated channel that facilitates seamless communication among users. In this channel, users can send and receive messages, respond to messages, receive notifications, and express themselves using emojis or reactions. In classical projects, project members have the flexibility to engage in discussions at any level of the project hierarchy. Whenever a project member is tagged in a message, they will promptly receive a notification. Moreover, if you need to notify all members simultaneously, you can utilize the "@everyone" tag. This feature ensures effective and efficient collaboration within your project team.
How to add documents ?
You can also store and share any type of document. Although folder creation is not currently supported, you have the flexibility to store your documents at any level within the project structure. The storage location for these documents is determined by the root project, allowing you to manage where they are stored. Any project member can create or delete documents.
Furthermore, Constellab™ allows you to create dedicated Constellab documents. These documents can be edited by any project member directly within the Constellab platform.

How to manage your projects ?
The project leader has specific roles, he will be able to:
- Create new subproject (specific to classical hierarchical projects)
- Share the project with new members or teams, expanding collaboration
- Update the project's status and modify its description as needed
- Assign and modify project leaders for sub-projects
- Delete project or sub-project
In the following example, Julie is the project leader for the "16S-analyses" project, which contains two sub-projects: "mock-samples" and "parkinson-samples". Hugo is the project leader for the first sub-project, and Camille for the second. However, since the "16S-analyses" project is shared among the entire team (including Camille, Julie, and Hugo), they are able to collaborate on all of the sub-projects.
