Note content

The note editor

A note's content is written in a rich-text editor. Beyond formatted text, you can add headings, lists, images, formulas, files, and audio transcriptions. Two block types are specific to notes: resource views and forms. You can also insert the content of a note template at any point.

To add a block, start a new line and click the + button, then choose the block type. Blocks can be reordered by dragging them with the handle on the left. Your changes are saved automatically, and a save indicator above the editor shows the current status. When a note is validated, the editor becomes read-only.

How to insert a note template?

note template is a reusable content blueprint. Inserting one into a note copies all of the template's blocks into the note at the position you choose. This is useful to apply a standard structure — for example a fixed experiment-report layout, a checklist, or a recurring meeting-note skeleton — without rebuilding it by hand every time. Unlike choosing a template when creating a note, inserting a template adds its content to an existing note, so you can combine several templates or mix template content with text you have already written.

  1. Place the cursor on the block where you want the template to be inserted.
    1. Open the block's options (the tune menu, reached from the handle on the left of the block) and click Insert note template.
      1. Select the note template in the dialog and confirm. Its content is inserted into the note at that position.

Example: you keep a note template called "Weekly experiment report" containing an Objective heading, a Protocol section, and a Results table. Each week you open your running lab note, place the cursor at the end, and insert that template — the note then gets a fresh, consistently formatted report block ready to fill in, while the previous weeks' entries stay untouched above it.

        How to insert a form?

A note can embed a structured form directly in its content, so data capture lives alongside the report that describes it. From the note editor you can insert a brand-new form or a reference to an existing one. For the full step-by-step procedure, see How to insert a new form into a note.

How to insert a resource view?

You can embed views of your scenario results directly into a note, making it more interactive and informative. There are two ways to add a view to a note.

        From the view itself (recommended):

        1. Open the view of interest from the Playground, Resources, or Views.
          1. In the view menu (), click Add the view to a note.
            1. Select the note where the view should be added. The view is added at the end of the note, and the scenario that generated the resource is automatically linked to the note.

              From the note editor:

              1. On a new line in the note, click the + button and choose Resource view.
                1. The views list opens, showing the views generated by the note's linked scenarios. Make sure the relevant scenarios are linked before adding a view.
                  1. If you do not see the view you expect, enable the Include not flagged views option in the search.
                    1. Use the preview button to check a view, then click it to add it to the note.

After adding a view you can give it a title and a description, and reorder it with the drag handle. To remove a view, delete its block like any other element.
